Colonial Dames of America Scholarship

The Colonial Dames of America scholarship is available for current graduate and professional degree-seeking F-1 and J-1 students who plan to further their careers and make impacts in their home country. Priority will be given to students with financial need near the end of their degree program.

The selected students will be named the Colonial Dames of America - Minnesota Scholars for the academic year and receive $7,000.

The awards will be distributed in Spring semester and are meant to apply toward tuition, student fees, and insurance costs.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible students must:

  • Be an enrolled degree-seeking graduate or professional student in both the Fall and Spring semesters of the current academic year
  • Be in legal F-1 or J-1 student status and have held this status for at least one year while attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
  • Have financial need
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Plan to use the skills and knowledge you have acquired in your education to contribute to your home country

Meeting these criteria does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship.

Priority is given to students in the final stages of their degree program.

Scholarship recipients will be asked to attend events, give presentations, and/or create a digital story video for the organization as requested by ISSS.

About the Colonial Dames

The National Society of Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) is a national service organization founded in 1891. The NSCDA is an association of 45 corporate societies from throughout the country with over 15,000 members. The NSCDA has been a leader in the field of historic preservation, American history education, and patriotic service. The 100+ members of the Colonial Dames of America - Minnesota corporate society have provided scholarships for international students at the University of Minnesota for more than 65 years.
