English Language Support

The Minnesota English Language Program offers English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for credit that help multilingual students continually improve their English language skills. MELP offers courses in reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, pronunciation, and more. For more information about registering for MELP courses, contact [email protected] or 612-624-1503.

Student English Language Support (SELS) offers free individual tutoring, group workshops, and conversation opportunities to help multilingual undergraduate students develop English communication skills for academic, professional, and social purposes. To make an online or in-person tutoring appointment or see a complete list of SELS events, please visit the SELS website. There are also quick online English language student resources at esl.umn.edu.

If you would like to work on your English conversation skills and also share your native language, consider joining the TandemPlus program. You will be matched with a partner and meet regularly throughout the semester. You will spend half of the time speaking English, and the other half speaking in your native language.
