All F-1 students returning to the University of Minnesota after being outside of the U.S. for a leave of absence will need to follow a series of steps to reinstate their status. This includes individuals who returned home for military service. Those who completed a graduate degree at the UMN and are returning for another graduate degree are also considered “returning students.”
We recommend students begin this process 3 to 6 months before they wish to return to the University to resume their studies.
