International Student and Scholar Services
The DS-2019 and your passport and entry visa are important legal documents.
Some visa holders are required to return home for at least two years after their program.
The 24 and 12 Month Bars affect when you can participate again in a J exchange visitor program.
You must comply with visa regulations. Not doing so could result in the loss of legal status.
You are required to purchase UMN health insurance for you and your dependents.
You will need an extension to continue your J-1 scholar activities/work beyond the current end date on your DS-2019.
You must follow these procedures to transfer to or from the University of Minnesota.
ISSS is required to notify SEVIS when you end your program, transfer, or change visa status.
ISSS is a unit of the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, the central international office for the University of Minnesota system.
