It is essential that you take action to remove the registration holds that are on your student record before your registration time. You will not be allowed to register for classes until these holds are temporarily or permanently removed.
Most international students have two or more holds on their records as part of admission to the University.
Below is a list of holds you should know about and instructions about their removal.
AI Hold (Determine Current Visa Status)
Placed by International Student and Scholar Services
Complete all of your New Global Gopher Required Tasks
AZ Hold (ESL, English/Second Language)
Placed by the Office of Admissions
To remove this, you may need to register for a class or take an English proficiency test. Review the AZ Holds page for more information.
MG and MJ Holds (Grad School Final Degree Transcript and Master Transcript)
Placed by the Graduate School
This hold indicates that the Graduate School needs a transcript or other record to complete your admission file. Learn more.
OK Hold (Grad School Bach Transcript)
This hold is managed by the graduate school.
FE and SFI Holds (Financial Aid-Ineligible Plan and Not Eligible for Payment Plan)
Non-degree students only
Non-degree students do not need to resolve the FE/SFI holds. These holds are only for administrative purposes only, and they will not prevent you from registering at your appointed time.
Non-degree students should resolve any other holds that are on their record.
Immunization Holds
All students must complete the UMN’s vaccination requirement through a Boynton Health form. Review Boynton Health's information about the University of Minnesota's immunization requirements.
As of July 1, 2023, COVID-19 vaccination at the University of Minnesota will no longer be required, although we strongly encourage COVID vaccinations and boosters.
