Optional Practical Training for F-1 Students

Students applying for OPT must complete the ISSS OPT Online Workshop before submitting their request to ISSS. Go to MyISSS to get started.

The information here is for UMN international students on F-1 visas who:

• Want to learn an overview of OPT,
• Have started the ISSS OPT Online Workshop, and/or
• Need to know the five steps to apply for OPT.

The information is also for students who:

• Have received their EAD card and need to know what to do next, and/or
• Are in their OPT period and want to travel, study, etc.

All students who wish to apply for OPT must complete the ISSS OPT Online Workshop. Reviewing the information on this website will not fulfill your application requirements.
