For the start of the Fall 2021 semester, the office will be open to the public on Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. During these hours, staff will be available for:
- Phone/virtual advising
- Document pick up and drop off
- Signing of F-1 Employment Verification letter (needed for Social Security Number applications)
We will not be doing in-person advising or Walk-in Hours at this time. F-1 students can continue to choose to receive electronic versions of their documents through email, and both F-1 and J-1 students can request to have their physical I-20/DS-2019 documents available for pick up or mailed either via Express mail or USPS.
F-1 & J-1 Students
F-1/J-1 advising services will continue to be offered virtually. Students can meet or connect with an adviser by either making a virtual advising appointment or attending our new virtual drop-in advising sessions. We will also continue to offer advising through email and resume phone advising as well. See details of our services below:

H-1B and Employment-Based Visas (UMN Staff, Faculty and Departments Only)
H-1B and employment-based visa advising services will continue to be offered virtually for University faculty, staff, and sponsoring departments. Individuals can schedule a meeting by contacting an advisor directly or by emailing [email protected]. We will continue to offer advising through email and phone as well.
PLEASE NOTE: The ISSS H-1B and employment-based advising team does not provide assistance to students regarding OPT/CPT. Students should review the OPT and CPT information to learn what assistance is available.
