Aimee Thostenson is the Director of International Student Recruitment and joined the ISSS team in 2016. Her interest in international education was sparked by her study abroad experience in Indonesia through the School for International Training. She has worked in international education for over 20 years and has presented at regional and national conferences on topics such as small group international recruitment, international enrollment management, cost-effective recruitment strategies and F-1 immigration regulations for international admissions professionals.
Aimee holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Macalester College and a master's degree in Comparative & International Development Education (CIDE) from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She received a Judd Fellowship to conduct research in China in 2002 and was selected to participate in the Fulbright International Education Administrators (IEA) program in Japan in 2009. Aimee has served on the NAFSA Region IV Leadership team, the NAFSA National Recruitment, Admission and Preparation (RAP) team (now IEM) and is the past chair of Study Minnesota. Aimee is currently a NAFSA Trainer Corp member.
In her spare time, Aimee enjoys swimming, reading, yoga, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and dancing with Sumunar Indonesian Dance Ensemble.
