All individuals in F-1, J-1, or H-1B immigration status should meet with an ISSS adviser BEFORE signing or committing to join the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) program. There are often visa status complications when people enroll in MAVNI, and there may be delays in the start of basic training due to backlogs in the standard background security check system. If you are applying to MAVNI, we recommend you maintain your F-1, J-1, or H-1B status until you are completely cleared to depart for basic training.
NOTE: At this time (Summer 2016), the MAVNI quota for 2016 (up to September 2016) has been reached for linguists, and the possible openings for 2017 have not been announced.
