Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI)

All individuals in F-1, J-1, or H-1B immigration status should meet with an ISSS adviser BEFORE signing or committing to join the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) program. There are often visa status complications when people enroll in MAVNI, and there may be delays in the start of basic training due to backlogs in the standard background security check system. If you are applying to MAVNI, we recommend you maintain your F-1, J-1, or H-1B status until you are completely cleared to depart for basic training.

NOTE: Note: The Department of Defense is not currently accepting MAVNI applications for FY 17 while it is revising its MAVNI implementation plan. Once it begins to accept enlistments, SEVP will provide additional information at that time. See the Study in the States website for more information.

What is MAVNI?
