Summer Group

International Students Enjoying A Twins GameYou survived the Minnesota winter…
Now enjoy the summer!

Are you staying in the Twin Cities this summer and looking for activities? Want to meet other students and have fun? Join the ISSS Summer Group and have fun with other international and domestic students. All events will be free or low-cost.

Please note: Events may change due to weather or other circumstances.

June 29: Soccer Game (Minnesota United FC vs. Houston Dynamo)

Become part of Minnesota professional sports history by watching the Minnesota United during its second season in Major League Soccer! The MN United is playing at TCF right now while their new stadium is being constructed in Saint Paul. The MN United has players from 11 different countries so it is truly an international experience!

We will be meeting for a FREE meal before the game!

We sold all of our tickets, but you can still join us for dinner and the game if you buy your own ticket.

If you wish to join us, please email isssgrps@umn.edu to say you are coming and the come to Heller Hall 110 at 5:00 p.m. We will have free pizza and salad!

Tickets are $15. If you wish to sit with the Summer Group, you must buy a ticket through this link and meet the event organizers at the time/place listed below. The site requires a credit card, and we cannot accept cash.

Game time: 7:00 p.m.
Game location: TCF Bank Stadium

  • You will automatically be emailed a printable ticket when you make the purchase. This is not your actual ticket for the game. You must meet the ISSS Summer Group organizers at 5:30 p.m. to get your ticket.
  • There are no refunds if you are unable to attend. In the unlikely event of a rain cancellation, there will be options to see another game using the ticket.

July 27: Como Zoo and Picnic

Due to the possibility of rain, this event has been postponed to July 27.

Come join us for the second ISSS summer event of the season! We will start with a FREE barbecue at Como Park; we will be providing hot dogs (beef/pork, turkey, and veggie), side dishes, and Popsicles! After we eat we will explore the Como Zoo and Conservatory, which has FREE admission.

During our trip, you will enjoy seeing a wide variety of animals from around the world and beautiful exotic gardens at the Como Zoo and Conservatory. Invite your friends and roommates, and let's make this a fun-filled afternoon with a visit to the Zoo.

Meeting time: :00 p.m. (To take the bus as a group; the exact meeting location will be emailed to those who RSVP)

August 17: Baseball Game (Twins vs. Detroit Tigers)

Baseball is another great summer tradition, and it is known as America's pastime! The Twins have been with Minnesota since 1961, and they have played at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis since 2010. Target Field is a beautiful outdoor stadium with a great view of the game and of the Minneapolis skyline.

Join us on the short trip to the Target Field, and help cheer The Twins to victory against the Detroit Tigers! A light dinner will be provided.

Meeting Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Heller Hall, Room 110 (We will take the light rail as a group)
Game Time and Location: 7:10 p.m. at Target Field, 353 North 5th Street, Minneapolis
