Students Crossing Borders
Community

Procedures and Timeline for Application
to Students Crossing Borders (SCB) Community

The application process for the SCB community is different for students who are new to Housing & Residential Life and those who are returning from living in Housing a previous year.

New Residents :

  • In the "Living at the U" section of the Housing application, select Students Crossing Borders as your LLC Preference #1.
  • Students will be notified of placement in the SCB LLC in early June.

Returning Residents:

  1. Students Crossing Borders is available during the room re-application process through a special Learning and Living Community (LLC) sign-up process during the LLC Round (February 18th). See more information about all returning LLCs.
  2. Log on to the Room Reapplication site as early as 7:00am on February 18.
  3. If you have not completed the Intent to Return process, you will complete it and then be allowed to sign up for a room. You will select “LLC Reservation Hall”. You will have the option to sign up for a specific room type but not an actual room. You will have the option to select a roommate (who must also complete the application for the community).
  4. If you have questions, please send an email to housing@umn.edu and put “LLC Reservation Hall” in the subject line.

Assignment process:

In order to make your transition to the SCB community as comfortable as possible, roommate pairings are assigned room by room to ensure that each resident’s roommate preferences and reasons for living in the community are maximized. Through our supplemental application process, each applicant will be evaluated on an individual level and paired with the best roommate(s) possible. (A majority of the rooms in this community will feature a U.S. and international student roommate pairing.) This intentionality gives you the opportunity to have a focused intercultural experience and better integrate your classroom and out of the classroom experiences.

Students Crossing Borders is located in Middlebrook Hall and houses approximately 130 students. In other words, we have space but it is limited so the sooner your application is received, the more likely you will be able to secure a space in this community.
