Betsy advises students and scholars regarding F and J status issues and offers academic, career, and personal counseling. She coordinates the ISSS Career Support. In 2017, Betsy is also advising UMN departments and employees regarding employment-based visas.
Betsy started her career in international education as a high school English teacher in Japan. She has advised international students and scholars for more than 10 years. She also worked for two years as a case manager for employment-based immigration cases at a Minneapolis law firm.
She has a B.A. in International Politics from Penn State University, an M.A. in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Comparative and International Development Education (CIDE) from the University of Minnesota.
