Betsy Madden

Betsy is an experienced international student advisor with nearly ten years of work experience in this field, including two years as an advisor to international students at UMN. She returned to ISSS to support the sponsored student program administration and advise sponsored students. Along with Gabi Schmiegel, Betsy acts as a liaison between University departments, programming organizations, and foreign governments on behalf of international sponsored students. Betsy also works with Deanne Silvera on exchange student program administration.

Betsy started her career in international education as a high school English teacher in Japan. She completed a B.A. in International Politics at Penn State University, an M.A. in International Educational Development at Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Comparative and International Development Education (CIDE) at the University of Minnesota.
