Announcing the Fall 2020 Virtual ISSS Intercultural Workshop Series

International Student and Scholar Services is pleased to announce the ISSS Intercultural Workshop Series for Fall 2021. The series includes two new workshops created to allow staff to integrate the lessons of the past year to offer services in culturally inclusive ways.

By attending this workshop series, UMN staff members gain greater cultural self-awareness, an understanding of the contributions of international students, and communication skills to improve interactions and relationships with international students, staff, and faculty.

Below is the full list of workshops being held this semester. The full descriptions for each session can be found on Training Hub.

PLEASE NOTE: Most of these sessions will be online, but some will be in-person. You can find the location of each session on Training Hub or in the email confirmation sent after you register. Our sessions will continue to include interactive exercises and international student voices.

  • October 14, 9:00 a.m.: Understanding International Student Experiences To Better Support Their Academic Journey
  • October 20, 1:00 p.m.: Communicating with International Students
  • NEW! October 29, 1:00 p.m.: Socially Just and Interculturally Inclusive Approaches to a Re-opened Campus
  • November 12, 9:00 a.m.: Bridging Cultural Differences
  • NEW! November 22, 10:00 a.m.: Disruptive Practices for Interculturally Inclusive Communication 
  • December 7, 9:00 a.m.: Culture In-Depth: Chinese Students at the UMN
