"Tales of International Success" is a series of short alumni experience videos (approximately 7-8 minutes each) produced by U of MN Career Services with assistance from Culture Corps, an ISSS program that helps international students share their culture with the University of Minnesota community. Episode 1 focuses on a 2016 graduate from the Carlson School of Management, Kelly, who discusses how she weighed the advantages and disadvantages of taking internships and, ultimately, her full-time job in the U.S. or back home in China. Watch the video to learn what she chose and why.
Episode 2 focuses on Xiao, a Carlson School of Management MBA student who has gone on to work in financial management for several local companies. As part of his job, Xiao often serves as a recruiter for his company at the University of Minnesota. In this video, he shares advice on what international students can do to stand out and be more competitive in their job search.
Episode 3 focuses on Sushruth, a 2015 graduate with a degree from the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) in Chemical Engineering. Sushruth talks about the hurdles international students face in the U.S.job search (he applied for hundreds of jobs!). Ultimately, however, he shares a message of hope for students willing to take advantage of all the resources the University of Minnesota offers.
Episode 4 focuses on Paolo, a social media analyst for Sprinklr in New York City who graduated from the Carlson School of Management in 2012. Paolo talks about the importance of having passion for what you do--not just going through the motions as an international student--for your ultimate career success.
