Katinka Beker

Katinka Beker is a doctoral student from Leiden University, the Netherlands, and joins the Department of Educational Psychology for Fall 2014 semester as a visiting scholar. Ms. Beker’s research interests include cognitive processes in reading comprehension, reading assessment and instruction, memory and learning processes, and development of cognitive processes. She is involved in innovative research in the field of multiple text comprehension, and is also working on developing a new research project that combines her work at Leiden University with work that is done at the University of Minnesota. The current research project will contribute significantly to knowledge about how to change students’ misconceptions, and sets the stage for an enduring research cooperation between the two universities. Among her valuable contributions so far, Ms. Beker has served as a co-author on a book chapter about argumentative reasoning. She has been very active in the short period of time she has been at the University of Minnesota, and her presence has been of great benefit to the graduate and research community.

Ms. Beker received her M.S. in Developmental and Education Psychology and her B.S. in Developmental and Education Psychology & Biological and Cognitive Psychology from Erasmus University.
