  Tax Information Session for International Students and Scholars

ISSS is holding Tax Information Sessions on February 10 for individuals who file non-resident tax returns. At these sessions, speakers will explain how international students and scholars can use the Sprintax software to file their non-resident federal tax returns for free and their non-resident state returns at a low cost. A link to the software will soon be available on the ISSS website.

DATE/TIME: February 10, 9:00-10:30 a.m. OR 1:00-2:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Carlson School, 3M Auditorium
Due to limited seating, we recommend attending the morning workshop.
The workshops are identical, so you only need to attend one.

Individual tax clinics will also be held for non-resident filers during February, March, and April. The exact schedule, including room locations, will be announced soon.

Please Note: ISSS advisors and staff cannot provide tax advice or assistance. Attend one of the Tax Clinics if you want assistance filing your nonresident tax forms.

  Undergraduate International Student Preparation Workshops for the Job and Internship Fair

Learn how to prepare as an international student for the upcoming UMN Job and Internship Fair []. You will receive preparation information and have the opportunity to ask questions and practice your self-introduction with feedback from Career Services staff.

  Indigenous and Trans People in North America - International GLBTQ Discussion Group

Dr. Lena Palacios, an associate professor in the department of Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies, is coming to our next discussion session and talking about indigenous and trans people in North America. Lena's research and teaching focus on Black, Indigenous, Chicana & Latina queer and trans feminisms, transformative justice and community accountability, media activism and media justice, etc. She will be talking about the ideas and voices of indigenous and trans people in relation to politics, activism, and their life in North America.

  H-1B Visa Workshop

An immigration attorney from a local law firm will give an overview of the H-1B employment-based visa. He will present the general rules and processes for cap-subject (for-profit companies) and cap-exempt (colleges and universities) employers. There will be time for your questions, and we will host a separate workshop about employment-based visas and permanent residence in March.
